Encompassing over one hundred thousand people and covering over seventy square miles extending into Berkeley, Charleston, and Dorchester counties, North Charleston is the third largest city in South Carolina. Until the early 1900’s North Charleston was originally occupied primarily by plantations. In 1972 the city of North Charleston was incorporated. Despite the 1996 closure of the Charleston Naval Base and the Charleston Naval Shipyard, today it thrives as the revitalized neighborhood and local destination of “Park Circle”. 


North Charleston is home to Charleston International Airport and thousands of hotel rooms, which service over one million passengers and visitors annually. Less than two miles away is the 400-acre Centre Pointe retail, the North Charleston Coliseum & Performing Arts Center and the Charleston Area Convention Center. Boeing’s 2009 choice of North Charleston for aircraft assembly and the 2011 delivery of the first 787 Dreamliner made the city one of world’s major aircraft centers of the further extended Charleston’s international importance. In addition to Boeing, the area is home dozens of large hi-tech and industrial organizations.


Residents of North Charleston are served by the Charleston County School District and Dorchester School District II. It is also home to several colleges, and universities, including; Charleston Southern University and Trident Technical College. Bordered by Ashley and Cooper rivers and divided by the interstates 26 and 526, North Charleston offers abundant and desirable real estate options. Major retail, shopping, and restaurants also make it convenient as well. From unique historic river homes and oak filled neighborhoods, to the predominant modern developments and large size give North Charleston home buyers a huge range of home and property options. This combined with the general lower price point, make North Charleston a popular choice from many Charlestonians and newcomers.
