FOLLY BEACH

Known as "The Edge of America" Folly Beach is located from the outermost western tip of Charleston Harbor. Folly Beach is not just a beach, but another of Charleston’s great barrier islands. Folly Beach was virtually abandoned for many decades following the Civil War. Tourism drove original development in the 20’s and 30’s with the construction of the Atlantic Pavilion, the Pier, the Boardwalk and the Oceanfront Hotel. The 1,000 ft. fishing pier almost divides the inhabitable areas of the island, with beach-front and deepwater real estate on either side. Retail shops, restaurants, bars and businesses collect in the middle at Center Street. 

Folly Beach is a beach town in every sense of the word. It has been described as Key West of South Carolina, or likened to Pacific Beach near San Diego, CA, as it maintains a laid-back charm and fierce independence. Some of the best surf spots on the east coast are located at Folly Beach, including; the Washout, 10th St. and the Pier. Folly Beach is known of both its beach town “day-life”, and its casual, but vibrant night-life.
