CHARLESTON DOWNTOWN

ABOUT

Your face lights-up, when you say "I live in Charleston", while the envy and admiration of your acquaintance is undeniable. One of the United Sates favorite and friendliest cities, The Charleston Downtown Peninsula preserves all of the old charm, at the same time rivaling the best offerings of our nation’s largest cities. The Peninsula / Downtown is adjacent to the Charleston Harbor, splitting Sullivans Island, James Island, and Folly Beach, while Mount Pleasant is to the east, Daniel Island to the north, and West Ashley to the west.

Early settlers were English and named their settlement Charles Towne for King Charles II. Charleston later became a focal point of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, and Fort Sullivan and Fort Sumter still stand as historical artifacts of those battles. The cities sea port gave way rice and cotton trade throughout the 18 th and 19th centuries, and today brand new BMWs direct from Greenville, and thousands of other containers make their way around the world from Charleston.

Its a city where residents and business live and work side-by-side. It is not always clear which of the old homes are residences, businesses, or historic sites. Charleston downtown has many faces, from cobblestone streets and waterfront to Louis Vuitton and Gucci, there is no place and lifestyle like Charleston. Up King Street, you’ll find some of the best retail shopping in the world. If you don’t already know, it’s impossible to avoid the world renowned restaurants and taverns all over the city, or to miss the Spoleto and Food & Wine festivals, and Fashion Week that commence each year. Its home to the College of Charleston, where you’ll find old smaller homes, filled with younger professionals. West towards the Ashley River is the Medical University of South Carolina-MUSC and Roper Hospital. If that's not enough head over to Joe Riley Stadium to catch a RiverDogs baseball game. Nicknamed the “Holy City” for the numerous steeples which dot the city's skyline, low-rise cityscape is appealing to processionals, students, families, retirees alike.

One of the most livable and walkable cities you’ll find, you could explore the Charleston downtown for days, weeks, even years, before you completely uncover it. All of this while only minutes from Folly Beach, Isle of Palms, or Sullivans Island beaches, and only a short drive to Kiawah and Seabrook Islands. Downtown Charleston presents a variety of real estate and home options, from street side "double houses", carriage houses, garden homes, waterfront properties, and world-famous "(Charleston) Single” homes, plus modern condominiums and lofts.
