MOUNT PLEASANT

Just over the Ravenel Bridge from the Charleston harbor is Mount Pleasant, home to some of the most sought-after residential real estate in Charleston. Originally occupied by the Sewee Indians, the first settlers came from England in 1680 and established, five English style villages developed along the harbor, east of the Cooper River now known as the “Old Village” which provides direct access to the Charleston Harbor. While historically the area is well defined, depending on where you’re standing and who you're talking to Mount Pleasant can take different forms; the Old Village, Old Mt. Pleasant, South Mt.P, and North Mt.P.

Mount Pleasant experienced little economic expansion even after the Cooper River Bridge opened in 1929. While the Old Village saw significant development, most of what we know as Mount Pleasant today didn’t exist until the late 80’s and beyond, when growth and population quadrupled thought the 2000’s leading to an “All America City” award in 2010. 

Many move to Mount Pleasant for the amenities, schools, shopping, nearby beaches, and overall, quality of life. Many neighborhoods are located near parks, schools, shopping/dinning, and often the water, in the form of tidal creeks and rivers. Others choose Mount Pleasant homes because of its great amenities; including Golf courses, or access local waterways such as the Wando River and Shem Creek, as well as local beaches on the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island. Mt. Pleasant also has many convenient shopping centers like Mt. Pleasant Towne Centre and dozens of great local restaurants. Mount Pleasant is known to have many of the highest rated public schools in all of South Carolina.

Singles, families and even retirees look to Mount Pleasant as place for diverse personalities and experiences. With over 75 subdivisions and planned communities, Mt. Pleasant offers some of the best residential options in the Charleston area. Home types range from older ranch, starter homes, or condominiums and town-homes to newer construction single families, all the way up to high end custom builds and luxury homes featuring classic lowcountry southern architecture, often including marsh views or maybe deepwater access…there are few limits to your residential choices.
