Once just a local refuge accessible only by ferry and since the 1990’s accessed by the “Connector” bridge from Mount Pleasant that spans the marsh, crosses the Intracoastal Waterway and overlooks the Atlantic, is the beautiful beach town of Isle of Palms. One of South Carolina’s most popular barrier islands, the Isle of Palms is equally a residential town, a world class vacation destination, and a highly desirable second home retreat. A family beach with a and equal population of full time residents and second home owners, you will regularly get a neighborly waive from residents who travel the island streets in golf carts. The wildlife is subtle and beautiful from shorebirds, pelicans, ospreys, to dolphins and Loggerhead Sea Turtles.
Besides the Ocean and Intracoastal Waterway the Isle of Palms has four other points of interest. IOP Recreation Center features tennis, pickleball, indoor/outdoor basketball courts, soccer fields, baseball/softball fields, and a children's playground. In these same areas you will also find large luxury beachfront and waterfront raised homes, built new in the traditional lowcountry character. By 1985 the Sea Pines Company had developed 1,600-acres at the north end of the island, now known as Wild Dunes. An affluent community of both vacation homeowners and year-round residents, featuring a wide mix of real estate and home options. With approximately 2,500 residences, Wild Dunes essentially splits IOP real estate. Isle of Palms children Sullivans Island and Mt. pleasant schools.
